Outside of Tulum’s swanky hotel zone, there are more than enough hole-in-the-wall eateries and late-night street stalls to go around. All places on this list are budget-friendly, locally-owned, and super delicious.

Taiwanese beef noodle soup was created by Chinese Civil War refugees who missed the taste of home. The warm concoction of flour noodles, braised beef, and slow-simmered broth is now the comfort food of an entire nation.

Visiting San Francisco Chinatown was the closest I felt to Chinese culture outside of China and Taiwan…and it’s just the beginning of what the city has to offer when it comes to authentic Chinese food.
